Strawberry summer cake

Photos of a strawberry cake my wife baked the other day. The cake is placed on slate – to add some texture and I used reflectors to bounce the light.

I think I have made it look as yummy as it tasted. Enjoy!!

A weekend in San Francisco – Day 1

San Francisco is one of my all time favourite places. This was our third trip to this beautiful city. This time we decided to stay away from the regular tourist circuit. This meant no Fisherman’s wharf, no Pier 39 (this is the biggest tourist trap), no Golden Gate bridge, no Mystery Spot etc… This time we wanted to try the San Francisco food scene and neighbourhoods we hadn’t been to yet.

We started early on Saturday, with a visit to the Farmer’s Market at the Ferry Building. First we hit the food stalls like Roli Roti and 4505 Meats, before the lines got too long and they ran out of food. We had a porchetta sandwich and roasted potatoes from Roli Roti and, an amazing burger and lamb and fried egg sandwich from 4505 Meats. Then we got adventurous, and tried fresh oysters from Hog Island Oysters – first time ever! We finished up with gelato from Ciao Bella and a single origin espresso from Blue Bottle Coffee Co.

If I lived in San Francisco, I’d be here every Saturday. Such amazing food and stunning location!

Later in the day we went to Twin Peaks. This was my first time here and I have seen some amazing pictures of San Francisco taken from here. Towards the blue hour, all of a sudden this place was swamped with photogs and I had no clue as to why. Right from iphones to Leicas, they were all there. As the moon rose over the horizon, it became clear – it was the super moon! I was just lucky to have planned to be there at that time.

Salt’s Cure

Salt’s Cure gets featured in all the ‘best breakfast/brunch’ lists in Los Angeles. We decided to check out this place on Saturday. It was really good and definitely deserves its spot on all those lists!

We had the ‘potted pig’. It’s pork cooked in its own fat served with crackers, herbs and pickled onions – not to be missed. We also had the 2 X 2 X 2 – that’s 2 eggs, 2 bacon strips & 2 sausages with biscuit and jam. The jam is fresh (it will be a crime to waste it). If you think you don’t need the jam, just try dipping the bacon in it.
And yes, the 2 X 2 X 2 tastes as beautiful as it looks 🙂
